Imagine it, students desperately dashing towards their computers, scouring the community for any possible service hours to save them from their drought. Volunteer locations rapidly dissipate with the inevitable passage of time, cursing students who procrastinate.

For those who still require service hours, Broward has opportunities for people of all backgrounds. Broward County is abundant with chances to get the 40 service hours required to graduate. For instance, Hollywood International Airport looks for volunteer airport ambassadors. Their role is to assist guests in finding their terminals, answer curious travelers’ questions and tell the tourists about exciting attractions. Those interested must be at least 16 years of age and require a background check.

For those who desire a more serene and personal environment, volunteering at a local library is a great way to give back to the community. Volunteers can help people of all ages discover their love for books and reading. They assist the library by reorganizing bookshelves, showing others how to use the computers and other technologies, and helping guide loyal library patrons find the books they crave. These opportunities are available for both teens and adults. The volunteer age varies between different libraries. At the Young at Art museum and library, which is only two miles away from school, the minimum age is 14 years old.

Many Americans struggle everyday with mental and physical disabilities. Center for Independent Living Broward’s mission is to help people with disabilities find employment, teach them independent living skills and show them how to use assistive technology. Volunteers will help the disabled prepare for storms by collecting and delivering needed supplies. The minimum age to volunteer and help is 16.
Broward, filled with breathtaking views, immaculate green fields and splendid parks, needs hardworking and energetic nature lovers to keep it this way. Broward County Solid Waste and Recycling Services allows volunteers to make new friends while freshening our environment.
