Wildcats deck out in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
Every October the school comes together to support an important cause. This year on Oct. 9 the school decked out in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Clubs like the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Human Relations Council (HRC) made it their top goal to spread the news about pink day by tweeting and hanging posters all over the school. Several students wore tutus, crowns, bandanas and accessories in pink. Many used body paint to paint pink ribbons, hand prints and hearts to their bodies.
Women all over the world suffer from breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 40,290 die from breast cancer every year, though the numbers are decreasing. Breast cancer is the second-leading cancer killing women behind lung cancer. When women are diagnosed with breast cancer they usually go through some form of surgery and/or chemotherapy. Sadly chemotherapy kills both cancer cells and healthy cells, the victims are only left to hope for a strong healthy life after.
Hope is key to this cause, from women hoping for a healthy life to families hoping their loved one will get better. Families are being affected from this sickness year round. With this awareness in mind, students dressed in pink to support women kicking cancer’s butt.
