The dodgeball tournament, sponsored by Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), was held in the gym right after school on Dec. 5 to raise money for leukemia and lymphoma.

Last year, HOSA began the tradition of holding a dodgeball tournament as a means of donating money to help those with debilitating diseases, donating over $8,000 from the event to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation last year. This year, the money raised from the charitable event was donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The event raised $1,300 through players each donating $10 to play. Thirteen teams competed; each team had ten players and a clever team name (such as Balls to the Wall and Ball of Duty). Some teams made matching shirts, like the Incrediballs, inspired by Disney’s popular animated feature The Incredibles.

Even with 700 fewer people this year, those who did participate had a “ball.” With two games being played at once, the spectators in the bleachers were pelted throughout the tournament. A small break between rounds provided the players with food and drink provided by HOSA.

The Untouchaballs won the title of Dodgeball Champions, plus $100 in Chipotle gift cards.
